Vaulting

Have bullion and coins stored in a dedicated, high-security vault instead of kept at home. Buy from us and choose the vault at checkout, or send us bullion you already own. It stays yours, it’s insured, and you can ask for it back whenever you like.

How it works: buying from us

  1. Choose “Store in the vault” at checkout. It appears as a delivery option when you’re signed in and nothing in your order is an accessory. There’s no postage to pay.
  2. We prepare it for storage. Once your order is in hand, we pack it in its own bag, labelled to your account.
  3. You confirm the deposit and choose your plan. We’ll ask you to confirm it in My Vault on your account, and to choose monthly or yearly billing. Nothing goes into storage until you do.
  4. It goes into the vault. From then on My Vault shows what we’re holding for you and where it’s up to.

How it works: bullion you already own

You can store gold, silver, platinum and palladium coins, bars and rounds that you bought elsewhere. Because we’re taking in property we didn’t sell, every transfer is checked before anything is stored.

  1. Ask for a vault account. In My Vault, choose “Request a vault account”. We’ll contact you to check your identity, usually by photo ID in person or a certified copy. Please don’t send identity documents by email.
  2. Tell us what you’d like to send. Start a transfer request in My Vault and list each item: metal, type, weight, purity, serial numbers, condition and your estimate of its value. You can add photos.
  3. Wait for our approval before sending anything. Once we approve, My Vault shows where and how to send it. For your security we never send delivery details by email.
  4. Send it with a carrier that covers precious metals. Before you send, confirm that your chosen carrier and service covers precious metals in transit for their full declared value. Tracking, signature on delivery or ordinary extra cover alone may not provide this. If you can’t get that confirmation, don’t send the parcel: contact us first.
  5. We receive and inspect it. Parcels are opened under CCTV. We weigh and measure each item, check its markings and serial numbers, and may need independent or specialist testing.
  6. You confirm the final intake. My Vault shows exactly what we propose to hold, including anything we found that differs from your request and the fee. Nothing goes into storage until you confirm it.

Transfer fee: $29 including up to 10 items, then $2 for each additional item, including GST. You see an estimate before you send your request and the final amount when you confirm the intake, and you’re only invoiced once the items are accepted into storage. Specialist testing and return postage are charged separately.

Your bullion stays yours

Storage is allocated: your bullion is kept in its own bag, recorded against your account, and never pooled with anyone else’s.

  • We can’t move your bullion into or out of storage without you confirming it on your account.
  • Every movement in and out is recorded in a ledger that can’t be altered after the fact.
  • Each vault visit is checked against those records, and isn’t signed off until everything balances.

Features of the vault

  • Purpose-built. Reinforced concrete and steel construction, designed to stand up to fire, flood and earthquake.
  • Flood-free location. The facility sits outside flood-prone ground.
  • Watched around the clock. Surveillance and detection systems run 24 hours a day.
  • Only we hold the keys. Our storage box has registered keys that can’t be copied, and nobody else has one — not even the vault operator.

Insured through Lloyd’s of London

Stored bullion is covered by insurance placed through Lloyd’s of London, up to $50,000 per customer, for as long as it’s in the vault. Bullion you send us is covered once we have received and recorded it; until then, it’s covered only by whatever cover you’ve arranged with your carrier.

Founding Vaulting Rate

An introductory rate for our first vaulting customers — and you keep it for as long as you store with us without a break.

  • Your first 30 days are free, counted from the day your bullion goes into the vault.
  • Then $29 a month, or $299 a year (save $49). Prices include GST.
  • Nothing is charged during the free trial. Your first payment is only due once the 30 days are up, when we email you an invoice: $29 if you chose monthly, then $29 each month after; or $299 once if you chose yearly, covering the next 12 months.
  • Cancel before the 30 days are up and you pay no storage fee.

The Founding Vaulting Rate covers allocated storage of up to 500 oz of silver per customer, insured up to $50,000 per customer. Storage is subject to available space in the vault, and is for customers with an account in their own name.

Withdrawals, handling and insured delivery are charged separately, and quoted when you ask. If you collect from our Tingalpa office, there’s no delivery charge.

Storage is provided under our Vault Storage Agreement, which you accept in My Vault when you confirm your first deposit.

Getting it back

Ask for some or all of it back in My Vault. We visit the vault on a schedule rather than every day, so we’ll confirm a date with you, then post it to you or have it ready to collect from our Tingalpa office by appointment. We’ll confirm delivery options and any postage cost when you ask.

What can be stored?

Anything you buy from The Coin Shed except accessories: gold, silver and copper bullion, collectable and proof coins, carded coins, sets and graded coins. Accessories such as capsules, albums and flips aren’t stored — those are things you’ll want in hand.

From elsewhere, we accept gold, silver, platinum and palladium bullion coins, bars and rounds. We don’t accept empty packaging, accessories or other property.

Can I store bullion I bought somewhere else?

Yes. Ask for a vault account in My Vault, then start a transfer request listing what you’d like to send. Please don’t send anything until we’ve approved your request. We’ll tell you in My Vault where and how to send it.

Is my parcel covered on the way to you?

Only by the cover you arrange with your carrier. Before sending, confirm that your chosen carrier and service covers precious metals in transit for their full declared value — many carriers exclude bullion and coins, so tracking or ordinary extra cover alone may not be enough. The goods stay your responsibility until we have received and recorded your parcel.

What if you can’t accept something I send?

We inspect everything we receive and may decline any item, for example if it can’t be verified, is damaged, or isn’t what was listed. We’ll show you what we can and can’t accept before anything is stored, and arrange to return anything we decline. Return postage and any specialist testing are charged separately. Accepting an item into storage doesn’t guarantee its authenticity or mean we’ve agreed to buy it.

Why isn’t “Store in the vault” showing at checkout?

It only appears when you’re signed in to your account, nothing in your order is an accessory, and the order fits within the storage limits (500 oz of silver and $50,000 per customer) and the space available. If your order includes accessories, order them separately to have the rest stored.

Storage needs an account in your name, so it isn’t available to guest checkout.

What if my order is on backorder?

That’s fine. It goes into storage once it arrives with us, and your 30-day free trial starts from the day it’s stored — not the day you ordered.

Can I add to my stored bullion later?

Yes. Choose “Store in the vault” on a later order, or send us more of your own with a new transfer request. Each is stored in its own bag, and My Vault shows all of it together.

Can I see what you’re holding for me?

Yes. My Vault on your account lists what we hold for you and where it’s up to — being prepared, securely vaulted, or on its way back to you.

What if I change my mind before it’s stored?

Contact us before you confirm the deposit and we’ll post it to you instead.

How do I pay for storage?

When your free trial ends we email you an invoice, then another each month or each year, depending on the plan you chose. Pay it online from the link in the email, or from your account. Nothing is taken automatically.

What happens if I cancel?

You can cancel any time in My Vault, and we’ll return everything you have stored — posted to you (insured delivery is charged) or ready to collect from Tingalpa (no delivery charge).

  • During the free trial: no storage fee at all.
  • Monthly: no more invoices. The month you’ve paid for runs out as normal.
  • Yearly: we refund the unused whole months of your year. A month you’ve started counts as used.
Is there a limit to how much I can store?

Under the Founding Vaulting Rate you can store up to 500 oz of silver per customer, counted by the actual silver content of everything you store — bullion, coins, bars, rounds and collectables alike, whether bought from us or sent in. A 2 oz coin counts as 2 oz, and a set containing 10 oz counts as 10 oz. Separately, you can store up to $50,000 by value. Storage is also subject to the space available in the vault. My Vault shows how much of your limit you’re using.
