Description
Enter the mysterious world of legends with the 2026 Austria Basilisk €3 Coin, the fourth release in the Austrian Mint’s enchanting Mythical Creatures series.
The Basilisk is one of European mythology’s most fearsome creatures, traditionally depicted as a strange hybrid of cockerel, serpent and toad. According to legend, its poisonous breath and deadly gaze could kill or turn its victims to stone.
The reverse features a vividly coloured Basilisk with its distinctive cockerel-like head and wings, toad-like legs and serpent tail. Gold-coloured decorative elements, including a mirror and ornamental border, add further detail to the design.
Adding another dimension to the coin, special elements change colour under ultraviolet (UV) light, bringing the mythical creature dramatically to life.
The obverse features an intricately decorated key bearing the letter “F” for Fantasy, surrounded by stars and magical motifs that unite the designs throughout the series.
With a limited mintage and an unusual UV-reactive design, the Basilisk is a fantastic addition for collectors of world coins, mythology and the Austrian Mint’s Mythical Creatures series.
